Adam Craig was able to nail down Cross Country and Super D championships this weekend.  The course changes did not appear to be in Adam's favor but he dropped all the competition within one lap.
The USA Olympic Mountain Biking Team was awarded their jerseys at Mount Snow. Todd Wells (far left) and Mary McConneloug (far right) are headed to their second Olympic Games.  Georgia Gould and Adam Craig will be making their first trip.
Katie Compton totally dominated the Short Track competition, riding off the front during the first lap.  She is picture here riding on her Dugas sew-ups on carbon rims.  It was clearly a faster set-up than anyone else had.  Only defending champion Mary McConneloug came close to chasing Katie down, but had to settle for second place.
Mount Snow is a perfect venue for the National Championships.  It features "real" mountain biking with steep climbs, roots, rocks, and often mud.  The downhill course is highly rated even by World Cup racers.  The Dual Slalom track, while not highly technical, require both skill and fitness.

This year the organizers saw fit to modify two of the courses. Some of the technical climbs and descents were removed from the XC course and replaced by steep fire roads.  The DH course was made less steep and required more pedaling. Racers either loved or hated these changes depending on their riding strengths and weaknesses.  On paper it looked as if it would be harder for
Mary McConneloug and Adam Craig to repeat as national champions.  Well, that was only on paper!

It was no suprise to see World 4X Champion
Melissa Buhl add two more titles to her resume.  But, it was a bit surprising that cycling legend Eric Carter took the Dual Slalom crown.

Katie Compton raced short track as if it were just another cyclocross race. Jeremiah Bishop nailed down his second championship in a month by taking his first ever short track victory.  He raced with brains as much as his legs as he let others do much of the chasing.
Mary McConneloug was forced to race in this Kenda jersey after officials would not allow her to race in her stars and stripes jersey. As a concession to the reigning national champion, the race was postponed 15 minutes.  Mary was able to out-climb Georgia Glould on the new steeper course, then hold off Georgia in an exciting sprint finish.
It was pretty cool to see that Eric Carter (left) can still get it done.  He won the Dual Slalom quite convincingly.  He is shown here with Ros Milan.  On the women's side, Melissa Buhl captured another crown as she defeated Kathy Pruitt.
