Joanna Peterson had a fabulous weekend, winning both the Women's Downhill and the Super D races.  During the Downhill she crashed, picked herself up, and still won by 13 seconds.  Pre-race favorite 4X World Champion Melissa Buhl did not race due to an injury.
Do downhillers have more fun or what?   This shot is quite remarkable in that it was not rehearsed, it just happened as the women waited for the timers to show up for their race.  Shortly after this photo was taken they fearlessly pointed their rigs downhill and took incredible risks in pursuit of victory.
Katerina Nash has finished second on many Cross Country podiums but never made it to the step .  She changed that this weekend by beating her teammates Georgia Gould and Catherine Pendrel.  This was no small feat since individually they are amongst the most highly ranked XC women in the world, and as a team they rank #1
Deer Valley is a fantastic venue for a mountain bike race. Not only are there gorgeous mountain vistas and endless singletrack, but Park City (home of the Sundance Film Festival) has a tremendous amount to offer visitors.

While some of America's top racers took the week off to either  recover from racing in Europe or to attend the B.C. Bike Race, there was plenty of top level competition at Deer Valley.  In fact, I doubt if any of the winners would have been different had everyone been there.

Congratulations to newly crowned 4X World Champion Melissa Buhl who won the Dual Slalom at Deer Valley.  Katerina Nash swept both the Cross Country and Short Track.  Ryan Trebon proved that when on form he is a dangerous racer. He was first in the Cross Country, while finishing second to Geoff Kabush in Short Track.

Ryan Trebon won the Cross Country race in a battle with a much improved Jeremiah Bishop.  Ryan had the edge on the climbs while Jeremiah was faster on the descents.  This was the first time a 29er bike has been ridden to an NMBS Cross Country Victory.
The Schultz brothers had quite a weekend starting with a head to head battle in Cross Country where Andy (pictured left) finished 4th while Sam (right) finished 6th.  On Sunday Sam rode to an impressive 6th place finish in Short Track while Andy finished 14th.Their Mom was on had to see her boys shine.
