Tabor,Czech Republic put on a fantastic world championship. The course was challenging, hilly, and fabulous for spectators. The entire course was lined with metal fencing and they built metal bridges over the course to greatly reduce course crossings. While in the Czech Republic I decided to check out Prague and found it to be amazing; a great blend of the old and new. You will a Prague photo gallery below.
While Katie Compton lead the World Cup series most of the year, she was clearly not 100% for the race in Tabor. Who would have guessed at the beginning of the season that USA Road Champion Meredith Miller would be the top finishing American at Worlds? Her 12th place finish is really quite astounding. Meredith had a blast this season and told me she is already counting the days until the next one.
It was very cool to see Zdnek Stybar win in front of his Czech countrymen. The whole place went nuts. While Katerina Nash came up a bit short, the crowd was equally supportive of her efforts. Marianne Vos (Holland) is certainly the real deal. Rumor had it she would not go off the front but that is exactly what she did. She also rode the snow, ice, and mud better than anyone else.
Kudos also to Amy Dombroski and Tim Johnson. They both finished 14th. TJ had his best cross season ever. With Amy joining Luna, we can expect her to be in the hunt for a world championship someday.
