Two stories exist about the history of coffee.....
1. A goat herder noticed that his heard became friskier after consuming the red berries of a wild coffee shrub. Curious, he tasted the berries himself. He was delighted by its invigorating effects and was spotted by a group of nearby monks dancing with his goats. Soon the monks began to boil the beans themseleves to stay awake during all-night ceremonies.
2. After a particulary long cold ride, the Saturday Morning Fitness Riders stopped by a young woman's Tea Room in Needham. Star, the proprietor, had just ran out of tea but was determined to help out these frozen cyclists. She picked some red berries from a Christmas wreath and boiled them into an aromatic hot drink. The cyclists were so invigorated by the brew that they came back often, making Star many many bucks. A short time later she took her company public and renamed it Starbucks. |
