2007 WE Steadman GP of Cross Verge NCCS #6 & 7 Warwick, RI
Anna Milkowski had one of her best rides ever on Saturday as she powered away from the whole Women's field.
Congratulations to Jesse Anthony (Jamis) and Lyne Bessette (Cyclocrossworld.com) for nailing down the Verge New England Championships. While Lyne is a repeat winner, this marks the maturing of Jesse as an Elite racer to be reckoned with for many years to come. He is right on track to win an 8th National Championship in the coming years. The weekend saw some spectacular racing on what I thought was a fabulous course. It is great when there are beach sections to ride (and the promoters don't have to truck in sand). There were plenty of short steep hills, slick corners, significant stretches of pavement, and plenty of riding through the woods to keep everyone happy. If anything, I thought the course might favor the roadies due to those pavement sections. Winners this weekend included Anna Milkowski, Todd Wells, Lyne Bessette, and Jeremy Powers. While both women's races were runaways after the first couple laps, the Men's races were back and forth battles that were decided on the final stretch of pavement.

Richard Fries announced "There's a new Sherriff in town" Jesse has an unbelievable track record at Nationals so you cannot count him out.
Having missed the race on Saturday, Lyne Bessette returned to form on Sunday. She Time Trialed the whole courrse and made it look easy. Amy Wallace, in a breakout race for her, kept it close for a lap or two and went on to a strong second place finish.
Todd Wells rode like a man on a mission the whole weekend. On Saturday he outsprinted Jesse Anthony for the win. On Sunday, he and Jeremy Powers duked it out with Wells bunnyhopping the large uphill barriers. Quite amazing. Jeremy, who had taken Saturday off, was fresh enough to beat Wells by inches in the final sprint.
Jeremy rode the course as if he had Todd Well's mountain biking skills. But it was his road pedigree that got him the win on the pavement.
