Still in First Place in Short Track- Go Katarina!
Walter Schoenknecht, the resort's first developer, bought the land in 1953 from Reuben Snow and named the resort and the 3605-foot peak (originally called Somerset Mountain and later Mount Pisgah) after him. Mount Snow opened for skiing in1954 and prospered into the 1960s. But the fuel shortages of the 1970s caused skiers to stay away. In 1977, Mount Snow was purchased by the owners of Killington.
Mount Snow is NOT named for the white stuff you ski on!
