NORBA's second stop of the 2005 season gave us racing as it should be - warm, dry, and fast. The Nova Desert Classic was held at McDowall State Park, site of the old Cactus Cups. The area has become so developed with expensive homes that I hardly recognized the place.
This was Colt's first time traveling to a race on his own. He spent a couple days there while I finished up Desert Camp down in the Tucson and Wickenburg areas. My only regret upon arrival at Fountain Hills was that I only had a road bike with me! The trails were spectacular and the desert was in full bloom.
Maxxis' Geoff Kabush continued his winning ways, taking all three pro stages. They were hotly contested but he had just a little extra. Twenty-two year old Trent Lowe now sits in second place for the series. I am betting that Adam Craig is going to finish highly this year also. Kona's Ryan Trebon was plagued by flat tires all weekend
In the women's stage race, Hawood won the Time Trial. Hanusova then beat Sue in Short Track in one of the most exciting finishes in a long time. Shonny Vanlandingham brought home the Cross Country for Luna with teammate Alison Dunlap close behind.
Colt had a solid weekend. He really turned himself inside out in the Time Trial. It is very difficult to be ready for these March races when the snow is still flying back home! Colt now sits in 8th place for Jr. Expert racers.
