2006 National Championships
Sonoma, California
We had an amazing week in San Francisco and at the USA Cycling National Championships in Sonoma. Colt rode to his first National Championship in the marathon distance and will wear the stars and stripes jersey for one year.  It was a brutally difficult race, lasting over 5 hours in 90+ degree temperatures.  Colt led until the last hour when he cramped and gave up the lead several times.  He attacked on the final climbs and finished alone in the 19-29 class.

Two days later he made the podium in the Cross Country event.  Most of the short track event he was within striking distance but fatigue set in with a couple laps to go.  He was still only a few seconds off the podium.

Four weeks before the US National Championships, Colt was diagnosed with Lyme Disease and was quite ill for a week.  We canceled our trip to the North Carolina NORBA, and he was at half strength at Mt. Snow a week later.  He then left for the race in Park City, UT where he will live at altitude for most of the summer.  After a solid race at Park City, Colt now leads the NORBA National Championship series in the Cross Country Event.

Significant credit should go to Mark McCormack, Colt's coach. For nearly three years, Mark's experience and knowledge have been invaluable.

We would like to congratulate our Kona friends, Ryan Trebon and Barry Wicks for winning their first US Pro Championships.  Ryan (6'-7") destroyed everyone in the Cross Country while Barry took 2nd.  Barry  (6'-5") won a very difficult short track and Ryan took 3rd.  Great job!
